Valentine's Checkers

Play a quiet game of checkers with your Valentine using these unique heart-shaped pieces and checkerboard. The fun part is collecting your rewards when you capture your opponent's pieces.

Level: Moderately easy

Time involved: Two to three hours, including drying time

Materials:

  • Newspaper or plastic
  • 24 1-inch wood hearts
  • Red and white craft paints
  • Paintbrushes
  • Black fine-tipped marker
  • Clear acrylic finish spray
  • Checker board
  1. Place a layer of newspaper or plastic on your work area to protect it. Paint 12 hearts with red paint and 12 hearts with white paint and allow them to dry.

  2. Using the marker, write a favor on one side of each piece, such as a back rub, a kiss, a hug, a special treat, or a candy. Once a checker is captured, it can be redeemed for that prize. Spray the checkers with clear acrylic finish spray and allow them to dry.

If you don't want to bother with paints but would like to play this game of favors, try using pre-cut heart-shaped foam pieces as the checker pieces.
