New Year's Eve Confetti
New Year's Eve Confetti
Age: Preschool and up
Time: An hour or more
Type of activity: Arts and Crafts
A celebration is just around the corner, but you can make confetti any time of year to use at kids' birthday parties.
Materials needed:
· Sheets of newspaper to cover your work area
· Several sheets of newspaper or grocery bags for confetti
· Scissors
· Tempera paint (assorted colors)
· Paintbrush
· Small plastic sandwich bags (optional)
· Decorative bowl (optional)
· Glitter (optional)
Step One: Lay newspaper over your entire work area in case of spills.
Step Two: Paint an entire sheet of newspaper or a cut-up grocery bag. You can use one solid color or a mix of colors. Use as many sheets of paper as you'd like. Make your confetti shine by sprinkling glitter over the wet paint.
Step Three: Let the paint dry completely.
Step Four: Turn each sheet of newspaper over to paint the remaining sides.
Step Five: To make the pieces of confetti, first cut the paper into 1 inch-wide strips.
Step Six: Then cut small squares out of each strip. (Hint: Don't make the squares too small -- they'll be hard to clean up!)
Step Seven: When you have cut the amount of confetti you need, put a handful into a plastic bag for each party guest. Or, you may choose to put all of the confetti in a decorative bowl to pass around just before the ball drops.
