Creative Mother’s Day Activities for the Whole Family

Many moms like to make memories with activities rather than receive tons of gifts (some like both!). But, if your mom is a memory-maker, here are some things you can look into doing for her.

1. Mother’s Day Brunch

Brunch

Can’t decide between lunch or breakfast for mom? Get them both knocked off the list with brunch. You can make it a multi-generational event for the whole family by inviting grandparents, aunts, and other loved ones if they’re close by. This can be a great way to get everyone together for Mother’s Day and enjoy a mimosa!

2. Plan a Mother’s Day Picnic

If the weather cooperates, plan a picnic for mom. Choose a nice park or even prepare a spot in the backyard and make it special. You can pack mom’s favorite foods and have everything done for her. She’ll love the sentiment and the fact that she doesn’t have to prepare lunch or dinner for the whole family!

3. Choose a Day Trip Location

Day Trip

Choose a fun day trip location that you know mom will love. This can be a trip to a museum, tickets to see a show, or plans to go somewhere else that you know she enjoys. Surprise mom with any one of these ideas for a Mother’s Day to remember.

4. Outdoor Fun

Some moms love to be in the great outdoors and would love to spend time outside for Mother’s Day. If you live where it’s beach weather right now, you can plan a day at the beach for mom.

If the weather isn’t quite beach-ready, perhaps a walk or hike? Before you plan an activity like this, you should know whether mom would enjoy this type of activity. While some moms would jump at the chance to have a day out doing an activity in the fresh air, others prefer to just lay low indoors.

5. Making Mom Breakfast in Bed

Breakfast in Bed

Moms like to get pampered, especially on Mother’s Day. Why not start her day off right with breakfast in bed? If teens are in the picture, they can help the little ones cook and prepare breakfast. Many breakfast foods, like eggs, are easy to make. Arrange all of the food on a nice tray with her favorite morning beverage, and you’ll make mom’s day even before she gets out of bed.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas for Young and Old Kids

When it comes to finding the best Mother’s Day gifts, many moms will tell you that gifts from the heart go a long way. This is not to say that a spa day won’t be much appreciated either! Check out some ideas that bring the best of both worlds together.

1. Family Photoshoot

These days, everyone takes pictures on their phones and traditional photos sometimes get forgotten. Schedule a family photoshoot to give mom that will give her a real, professional family photo that she can display at home. This is something she’ll have for years to come.

2. DIY Gifts and Homemade Mother’s Day Cards

DIY Gifts

These are great gifts that little ones can give mom to make her day extra special. Have toddlers or young children make a card to show them they care. Mom will appreciate this more than a store-bought card!

Some fun ideas for toddlers can be to either have them trace their handprint on the cover or make a print with washable paint. An adult can then ask five reasons why they love mom and write them on each of the five fingers on the print. This unique gift is sure to be special!

Another fun idea is to have the kids paint some ceramics. Moms love homemade ceramic gifts, especially when they’re from the kids.

For older kids who are past the homemade crafts and ceramics days, why not make a fun little video for mom for Mother’s Day? We all know tweens and teens love their devices. They can use all of their tech-savvy ways to make a fun video for mom to show how much they care.

3. Coupon Book

What mom doesn’t love a good coupon to save money? What if that coupon was a weekend without laundry or a night not to cook or clean up? Make mom a customized coupon book to “save” her from doing all of the things she may want to break from. Trust me, you may think this is a “little gift” but it will go a long way! You don’t have to spend a lot to warm Mom’s heart!

4. Last-Minute Mother’s Day Gifts

Last Minute Gifts

As much as we try to prepare and be extra thoughtful, there are times when life gets in the way and we can’t quite finish what we want to get done. If you end up falling into this category, it’s okay, mom still loves you! That’s why they make gift cards, and Mother’s Day flowers. These are still great ideas that mom will love.

When it comes to Mother’s Day gifts, moms just want to be remembered on their special day. Whatever you do or get will be appreciated, but just don’t forget that second Sunday in May! Happy Mother’s Day!
