Do you have a picky eater on your hands? Reading books about food together can help inspire a love of foods and eating in your child, and even get them on the right track of healthy eating. Luckily, you can find dozens of amazing books from some of your favorite authors (and new ones, too!) to share your love of healthy eating with your child. Here are seven of the best children's books about food (especially for picky eaters, ages two through eight):

More:8 Fun Food Activities for Kids

1. Eating the Alphabet, by Lois Ehlert

Eating the Alphabet book

Kids will love the colorful illustrations as they travel on a food journey from A through Z. The best part of the book is the glossary at the end that provides interesting facts about each food so kids learn about a large variety of fruits and vegetables.

2. Dragons Love Tacos, by Adam Rubin

Dragons Love Tacos book

Kids will not be able to stop laughing at this hilarious tale of dragons who love tacos. Just watch out, because if a dragon eats spicy salsa, you're in for trouble. This book might even encourage your kids to try a new food, like tacos, even if it's a little "spicy," to see if they can shoot fire like a dragon.

3. Gregory the Terrible Eater, by Mitchell Sharmat

Gregory the Terrible Eater book

Gregory, the goat, won't eat typical goat foods, like old tires, boxes and bottle caps, instead preferring fruits and vegetables. Once he does get a taste for those foods, he can't stop eating them! With a bit of reverse psychology, this book teaches kids to try a variety of foods - especially fruits and veggies.

4. Bread and Jam for Francis, by Russel Hoban

Bread and Jam for Francis book

Frances, like many little kids, only wants to eat her favorite foods – bread and jam. But, when Frances's mother chooses to only serve her bread and jam, she quickly realizes she misses out on eating a variety of foods.

5. Green Eggs and Ham, by Dr. Seuss

Green Eggs and Ham book

In this classic tale, the narrator keeps insisting that he does not like green eggs and ham. However, when he finally tries the food at the end of the book, he realizes he actually loves it. This tale encourages kids to try every food once – even if it sounds as unappetizing as green eggs and ham.

6. From Seed to Plant, by Gail Gibbons

From Seed to Plant book

This tale teaches kids how their food grows, from how a seed begins to how pollination occurs. It teaches kids the basics of what makes their fruits and vegetables grow.

7. Good Enough to Eat, by Lizzy Rockwell

Good Enough to Eat book

This book is a one-stop guide to nutrition written just for kids. It explains all about the different nutrient groups, including carbohydrates, fats, proteins and more, their function, and what kinds of foods include these nutrients.

Get your child off to a great start on the path to good nutrition with these children's books about food.
