Family name origins & meanings

  • Korean : there is only one Chinese character for the Mok surname, which was much more common in the past than it is today. Many members of the Sach’ŏn Mok clan held prominent government positions in the Koryŏ period (ad 918–1392) and the subsequent Chosŏn period. The clan’s founding ancestor, Mok Hyo-gi, was a Koryŏ general.

  • Hungarian (Mók) : from the secular personal name Mók, probably a pet form of Mózes, Hungarian form of Moises.
