Now that your kids are back in school, you may be wondering how to encourage creativity and learning not only in the classroom, but also at home.
An at-home learning space is an incredible way to let your child play and explore the world around them. And while building one may seem like a daunting task, creating a comfortable and inspiring learning space for your children is actually easier than you may think.
As I’m nearing the due date for my third child, I can’t help but wonder how I’ll possibly make the time to give each one the individual attention they deserve. The kids will soon outnumber the adults in our household, and it’s important to me to make sure they feel as if we’re making time for them.
From the moment a baby is born, most parents have a certain idea of what their kid will be like. Maybe they hope their child will grow up to be a lawyer like their mom or a college athlete like their dad.
However, very rarely do children grow up to be exactly what their parents expect them to be.
Take it from Maureen Emily. Maureen is a self-proclaimed extrovert through and through and always assumed her daughter, Georgia, would be as outgoing and bubbly as she was.
First and foremost, we love you. That is a given, and our kids are blessed to have you in their lives. We are doing our best as parents and appreciate everything that you do, yet there are some sticking points that are hard to discuss because, well, you’re our parents and we still feel about 5-years-old when we’re around you. So here goes…
I’m transparent in my articles for FamilyEducation, and here I go again with a confession: I am crazy in love with my daughters, both under age 5, but struggled with pregnancy. I was high-risk both times and even though I understood and did appreciate that I was growing life, I felt incredibly self-conscious about my 80 lb. weight gain with Baby #2. In the last few weeks of pregnancy with #2, I woke up every morning and silently prayed that today would be the day my water broke.
On behalf of all pregnant women currently walking the face of the earth, I’d like to take a moment to share with you some of the most common things we hear while pregnant that should never, ever be said to us.
We get that our pregnancy acts like a magnet for strangers — one that pulls you toward us, urging you to touch our bellies and share your opinions with us. Sometimes the attention is fine. It’s nice to be told you’re beautiful when you’re feeling heavy and tired and completely out of breath.
Before getting pregnant and having my son, I had a lot of plans for the kind of parent I wanted to be. When I thought about what my parenting philosophy would be, it would have been heavily categorized under the “natural parenting” label. Leave it to my strong-willed and life-lesson-teaching son to show me a thing or two about being flexible with my plans.
The sight of pumpkins, ghouls, Hocus Pocus on repeat and spooky Halloween decorations are all around us. Halloween is such a fun time of year as a kid! I remember spending all of October debating with friends about what to dress up as and spending weeks formulating our ultimate trick-or-treating route to get the best selection of candy.
A cup of coffee is a morning ritual for many of us. But, when you get pregnant, many women wonder if their caffeine consumption has to take a backseat...at least for nine months. The concern is over whether a woman's caffeine intake will increase the risk of miscarriage, low birth weight, or lead to birth defects.
Halloween in all of its spooky and dress-up glory can be one of the most exciting times of the year for families! Of course, this thrilling family time often centers around a single question: What should we be for Halloween?
There are so many directions a family can take with a Halloween costume decision. You can each make your own choice or have a family costume theme. You can choose a costume that represents someone you admire in real life or a favorite character from a book or movie.
