Third Trimester

Your 30th Week

You're getting tired more easily but that probably won't stop your nesting plans.

5. You are still feeling a lot of strong kicks, although the baby is moving around less.
4. The amniotic sac has finished growing and is no longer forming new cells. Because the membranes of the sac are highly elastic, they keep stretching as the baby gets bigger.
3. The tip of your baby's nose is still upturned and the bridge is becoming more evident.
2. At 30 weeks the average crown to heel length is 14.8 in (37.6 cm) and the average weight is 2.2 lb (1 kg).
1. In the brain, nerve cells are developing into distinct areas that will eventually control specific functions such as memory and coordinated movement. As yet, the neural network is very immature.

The nest-building instinct often kicks in as a woman approaches her due date. You may be overwhelmed with the urge to clean and decorate, but although it's natural to want a perfect home for your baby don't wear yourself out. Work, traveling, and a constant round of prenatal appointments are probably all much more of an effort these days. If you need to keep stopping to rest, listen to your body and do just that.

Your baby todayIn this image a hand is held up to the forehead and, to the right, part of a foot can be seen. The groove between the nose and the upper lip is visible and the nose has the characteristic "button" shape. It looks cramped in there but there is still room to move. read more

Your baby todayThe lip shape and groove between the nose and upper lip are particularly well shown here. If you or your partner has a prominent groove, or philtrum, above the upper lip, your baby may too, or she may inherit characteristics that are somewhere in between. read more

You are 29 Weeks and 6 Days Pregnant

Your baby todayIncreasingly sounds enter the uterus and your baby will respond to some of the loudest. The fluid all around her can have quite an effect on the sounds that your baby can hear: the effect is similar to how you might feel when you swim with your head under water. read more

You are 30 Weeks Exactly Pregnant

Your baby todayDoes your baby start to feel tired? Certainly on some scans it can look as if she is. In fact, your baby actually spends most of the time in a state of sleep rather than full wakefulness: it seems that during pregnancy your baby does need to spend most of the time asleep. read more
