  • Indian (northern states) : Hindu (Brahman) name from Sanskrittrivedī ‘one that knows the three Vedas’, from tri-‘three’ + veda ‘(sacred) knowledge’. The Vedas are the oldest sacred texts of the Hindu religion. Three of them are regarded as primary but a fourth one was added later. See also Tripathi.
