Family name origins & meanings
- Japanese : ‘rice paddy near the lake’; found throughout Japan and the Ryūkyū Islands, and variously written. One family, descended from the Minamoto, were daimyō of Ōmi (now Shiga prefecture). Listed in the Shinsen shōjiroku.
