Shamrock Necklaces

Age: Preschool through elementary
Time: 30 minutes or more
Type of activity: Arts and Crafts

On St. Patrick's Day, it's a must to wear green. Help your child make her own shamrock necklace to get in the holiday spirit.

Materials needed:
· Green construction paper
· Hole puncher
· Scissors
· Pencil
· Yarn

What to do:

Step One: Help your child decide what type of necklace she wants to make. For example, she can have many little shamrocks going around her necklace, one big shamrock in the middle, or all different sizes together.

Step Two: Make a stencil for each size of the shamrocks she chose.

Step Three: Using the stencil, trace and cut out enough shamrocks on the green construction paper for the necklace.

Step Four: Cut a strand of yarn so it can hang around her neck comfortably.

Step Five: Punch holes at the top of each shamrock.

Step Six: String the yarn through the holes in each shamrock. To make the shamrocks stay in place, make a knot each time you string one into place.

Step Seven: Once your child has finished, tie the two ends of the string together. She can wear it around her neck while she makes more for all your family and friends.
