How to Raise Children to Love God

Question: “How do you raise children rightly to love God?”

Dr. Ana’s Expert Answer

If you want your children to be religious, you have to be religious. Parents act as models for their children, so if you want your children to believe in God, they must see you believing in God, and you must talk about it and teach them about God from a very early age. So, they must see you praying, going to Church, and following the rules of your faith. Remember that children are always watching us; they learn a great deal from the way we behave.

Be a Role Model of Faith

Parents must embody the religious principles they wish to teach. Children need to see their parents actively practicing their faith, such as praying, going to church, and following the rules of their religion.

Teach and Talk About God Early

From an early age, parents should talk about God and teach their children religious values. Conversations around faith and spirituality should be part of everyday life.

Remember, Children Observe and Learn from You

Children learn by observing their parents’ behavior. They watch closely and mirror what they see, so your actions and commitment to faith will have a lasting impact.
