Spin the Globe

Look at a globe with your child and plan the perfect trip together.

Spin the Globe

Required:

  • Atlas or globe
  • Reference materials

Looking for a great vacation spot for your family? Then spin the globe (or flip through an atlas or scan a map) while you're unwinding, and you and your child can plan the perfect trip.

Choose a destination at random, and discuss the place with your child. See what he or she knows about the language, customs, government, lifestyle, and so on (your child might also check an encyclopedia or another reference book for additional information).

If you and your child agree that it might be a nice place to visit, ask your co-traveler to help you plan an agenda. How would you get there, and how long would it take? What clothes would you pack? What words and phrases would you need to learn? What tourist attractions should you be sure to see while you're there? What noteworthy local people might you run into, and what questions or other messages might you have for them if you did?

If you and your child plan a trip to Great Britain, do stop at Buckingham Palace and give the Queen our best!
