Mummy Halloween Costume

Time: One day

Effort: Fairly easy - some sewing

Materials:

  • An old sheet (off-white or a white one that you will need to stain with tea to make it look old)
  • White makeup
  • White face powder
  • Gray eye shadow
  • Black lipstick (or face makeup)

Instructions: Tear sheet into thin pieces. To stain a white sheet, soak it in a sink filled with hot water and about 10 tea bags. Let soak overnight. Let sheet strips dry. Wrap entire body with strips, tying the ends together. Use white makeup on face; cover with white powder to help set makeup. Use gray eye shadow to hollow out cheeks and eyes, black lipstick on lips.

Variation I:
You need:

  • White sweatsuit
  • White turtleneck
  • White sneakers
  • Roller gauze or Kling (buy at pharmacy)
  • Fabric tape (buy at Wal-Mart or craft store)
  • Black face paint

Instructions: Dress child in turtleneck and sweat suit. Wrap head with gauze (careful not to cover eyes and mouth). Cut strips of Kling long enough to hang from sweat suit and tape to suit with fabric tape. Make dark circles around eyes and color lips with black face paint.

Variation II:
You need:

  • Karo syrup
  • Dry oatmeal
  • Old clothes

Instructions: Wet entire face and hands with syrup, then dab on oatmeal. Put on old clothes, tear them to give a better effect.

Variation III: Use cheesecloth and safety pins.
