Q
My fifth-grade daughter's math grade has been dropping continually. I need to know where I can get assistance since I'm not getting it from her teacher.
A
Talk to the school counselor. Explain that you have tried to ask your daughter's teacher for assistance and not received any. The counselor will know about any tutoring services available in your community; many churches, public libraries, and recreation centers offer free or low-cost tutoring for children. The counselor may also know about any tutoring agencies or private tutors who work with children for a fee.

You may also want to check with the education department of a college or university near you, as they often have tutoring available through their students. Ask around in your neighborhood as well, as there may be a high school student near you who would be willing to work with your daughter on her math.

The school counselor may also be able to offer study-skills groups that would help your daughter in her ability to learn math.
