Homeschooling, on the other hand, involves a commitment by both parent and child to embark on a learning adventure that is different from school. Some parents choose "school-in-a-box" (so named because everything you need is sent to you) from a curriculum provider, and basically duplicate the school environment at home. Most homeschooling families, however, gear their studies to their child's abilities and interests, choosing from a wide variety of resources that encourage academic excellence. Initially, this involves a lot of research and observation as you experiment and discover what works best for your son. This process may take a year or more before it is running smoothly. My son was expelled from the eighth grade with only two months left of school. I want him to finish eighth grade and proceed to ninth. Is homeschooling a good option for us?

It's hard to say you've given me very little information. Do you mean you want him to finish eighth grade at home and then have him proceed to ninth grade at a different school? You can teach him at home and finish the year, but I hesitate to call that "homeschooling." That type of learning would really be tutoring, and if you can obtain copies of the books he was using in school, you should have no problems.
