Week 14 of Pregnancy

Second Trimester

Your 14th Week

There are subtle changes happening to your shape that only you will notice.
Week 14 of Pregnancy
1. The fundus, the top of the uterus, can now be felt in your abdomen.
2. The ears have already developed their helical pattern, although your baby cannot hear yet.
3. The first hairs of the baby's scalp and eyebrows often appear at this stage.
4. At 14 weeks the average crown to rump length is 2.1 in (5.4 cm) and the average weight is 0.5 oz (14 g).
5. The brain is developing rapidly, and your baby's head accounts for about half her total length.
6. Facial features are becoming more clearly defined. The eyes and ears have reached their final positions.

Your baby isn't big enough to give you an obvious pregnancy belly, but you'll definitely notice your waistline become thicker. At this stage of pregnancy, many women feel re-energized and have a strong sense of well-being. Healthy eating is very important, so be clued in about the best food choices. In particular, your body needs plenty of protein, and your baby needs it, too, to sustain her rapid growth.

Your baby todayWhether your baby's legs are crossed or uncrossed, it is very difficult to tell from an ultrasound at this stage whether your baby is a boy or girl: male and female look too similar to reliably tell them apart. read more

You are 13 Weeks and 5 Days Pregnant

Your baby todayAt this stage the head, although still large, has a much more rounded shape than before and, as the jaw and neck lengthen, the chin moves away from the neck. An ultrasound now will show the thumb as distinct from the fingers. read more

You are 13 Weeks and 6 Days Pregnant

Your baby todayIn this color ultrasound image the baby is red and the placenta green. It is just possible to see the two crosses that measure the depth of fluid in the nuchal fold at the back of the neck. Now is the last opportunity to measure this reliably. read more

You are 14 Weeks Exactly Pregnant

Your baby todayThis 2D ultrasound shows the profile of the baby particularly well. The nasal bone can just be seen at the bridge of the nose, as can bright echoes from the lower and upper jaws; the umbilical cord is rising from the center of the abdomen. read more
