State Public Adoption Agencies

Each state has a central adoption office based in the state social services headquarters. These offices are primarily concerned with the adoption of foster children, but in most cases, state adoption personnel are also aware of adoption laws and proposed changes to laws. State personnel probably can't recommend individual adoption agencies, but they might be able to tell you about complaints or allegations against specific agencies. If the individuals you contact cannot answer your question, ask whether they know of an organization or group who might know the answer.
