Phew—we did it, fam. If you feel like you've just had a crash course in an entirely new language, you're not alone! But the good news is, you've passed the vibe check when it comes to Gen Alpha slang. Now that you know the deep cut lore behind some of the most popular new slang terms, you might have a hope and a prayer in keeping up with your kids' chat. Will this make you sound really cool? Possibly, but don't make a rookie mistake like I did the other day when I confidently dropped "rizz" in the completely wrong context. That was high key cringe, and I'll be trying to live down how goofy ahh it was for the foreseeable future. Good luck, fellow slang noobs!

What Is Gen Alpha?

The category of "Generation Alpha" refers to children who were born between the years 2010 and 2024 (approximately). Gen Z was the one that came immediately before, including those born in the late 1990s, and Gen Beta directly follows the age group of Gen Alpha individuals. Those in Gen Alpha have been shaped by the Covid pandemic, heightened mental health awareness, AI use, and constant on-demand entertainment through smartphones and streaming services.

What's Unique About Gen Alpha?

Because Gen Alpha individuals have grown up largely without analog technology, they are typically very attuned to digital matters and are very tech-savvy, whether it's smartphones or social media. Gen Alpha also tends to embrace diversity and difference, mental health awareness, and come up with ways to make education and daily life more "gamified" to increase their enjoyment of daily life.

Some Gen Alpha individuals also experienced the COVID-19 pandemic during their formative years, including quarantines and social isolation, which can have significant effects on the way they view the world, the importance of connections, and global awareness through digital platforms.
