Family name origins & meanings

  • Italian : from a feminine diminutive of Zotto, which is of uncertain derivation. It may be from zoto ‘lame’, a Venetian form of zoppo (see Zoppi), or otherwise from a short form of a personal name ending with the hypocoristic suffix -otto, such as Lorenzotto (from Lorenzo) or Zorzotto (from Zorze, Zorzi).
