  • Spanish : from a medieval personal name, Toribio, Latin Turibius, bestowed in honor of two Spanish saints. St. Turibius of Astorga was a 5th-century bishop who championed Catholic doctrine against the Priscillianist heresy. St. Turibius of Palencia was the 6th-century founder of the famous abbey of Liébana in Asturies.
