Family name origins & meanings

  • Norwegian : habitational name from any of several farmsteads in Hordaland, named in Old Norse as either Telgland or Teigland. In each case, the second element is land ‘piece of land’; the first elements are respectively telg ‘bracken’, ‘fern’ and teigr ‘strip of land’.
