  • North German and Dutch : from a reduced form of Frisian Tjadeke, a pet form of any of several compound personal names with the first element thiod- (from Germanic theudo- ‘people’, ‘race’; compare Tabbert 2).
  • North German and Dutch : alternatively from a short form of a personal name formed with Old High German tac ‘day’ + berht ‘bright’.
  • North German and Dutch : alternatively, perhaps from tak ‘twig’, ‘sprout’, ‘branch’, Middle Low German tack(e) ‘twig’. This may have been an ironic nickname for a big man, or a nickname for a hard worker.
