Family name origins & meanings

  • Polish (Śpiewak) and Jewish (from Poland) : from śpiewak ‘singer’, hence a nickname for someone with a good voice, or an occupational name for a chorister or ballad singer, or, in the case of the Jewish name, a cantor in a synagogue. This is also a frequent name in Germany, where it is also written Spiewack, Spiewok.
