Family name origins & meanings
- Japanese : ‘garden rice paddy’; it is found mostly in the island of Kyūshū, where bearers are descended from the Kikuchi family. A priestly family of Ise (now part of Mie prefecture) is descended from Fujiwara no Hidesato (10th century), of the northern Fujiwara, through the Arakida family. They take their name from a village in Kōzuke (now Gunma prefecture).
