Family name origins & meanings

  • Indian (Panjab) : Sikh name (from Sanskrit siddha ‘accomplished’) derived from the name of a major Jat tribe. The Sidhu trace their origin to Jaisal, a Bhatti Rajput who was founder of Jaisalmer. Among his descendants was Khiwa, who married a Jat woman and had by her Sidhu, the ancestor of the Sidhu tribe.
