- Irish : reduced Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Scoireadh ‘descendant of Scoireadh’. Woulfe believes Ó Scoireadh and Ó Scurra (see Scarry) to be localized variants of the same name, while MacLysaght regards them as two different names.
