- Indian (Panjab) : Sikh name which goes back to the tribal name Sandhu or Sindhu. The Sindhus are the second largest Jat tribe in the Panjab. Originally sindhu referred to the Indus river and to the region where it flows, a part of which is still called Sind. Hindu and the various names of India, Hind, Hindustan, and India are all derived from the Persian form of sindhu.
