  • Southern Italian : of uncertain origin; possibly a nickname from old Sicilian saynatu ‘white horse’; or from sagginato ‘color of sorghum’, presumably a nickname for someone with fair hair. Alternatively, it may be a nickname for a fat man, from Latin sagina ‘fattened’.
