Family name origins & meanings

  • Finnish : topographic name from rinta ‘slope of a hill’ + the local suffix -la. It originated in southern Karelia, where it dates back to the 16th century; it was also widely adopted as an ornamental name during the name conversion movement in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
