Family name origins & meanings

  • German : from a short form of a Germanic personal name formed either with rād, rāt ‘advice’, ‘counsel’ or in some cases with hrād ‘quick’.
  • Hungarian (Rádi) : habitational name for someone from one of several places called Rád in Hungary.
  • Muslim : from a personal name based on Arabic rạdī ‘satisfied’, ‘pleased’ (see the Qur’an 19:6).
