Family name origins & meanings

  • Czech (Procházka) : from an agent derivative of procházet ‘to walk or wander’; this was an occupational name for an itinerant tradesman, especially a traveling butcher. It could also be a nickname for an idle person, from the same word in the sense of one who sauntered around idly.
