  • Variant of German Pinder or Slovenian Pintar, variants of Binder ‘cooper’.
  • Jewish : in England this is found as an Anglicized form of the Sephardic name Pinta.
  • French and Hungarian (Pintér) : occupational name for a maker of measures or for an official who controlled measures, from an agent derivative of Old French pinte, Hungarian pint ‘pint’, of uncertain origin.
  • Pinter is also found as a Dutch surname, probably with the same meaning as in 3 (see Pint).
