Family name origins & meanings

  • German : from a short form of the Latin personal name Paschalis. Compare Italian Pasquale.
  • German : topographic name for a field or meadow which was used at Easter as a playground; etymologically two sources seem to be combined: Latin pascuum ‘pasture’ and Middle Low German pāsche(n) ‘Easter’ (see Paasch).
