  • Polish : habitational name for someone from any of the many places called Paproć, Paprotki, Paprotno, or Paproty, named with paproć ‘fern’. In some cases it may be a topographic name for someone who lived in a place where ferns grew in abundance.
  • The surname Paprocki, borne by several Polish noble families, has been recorded since the 15th century. Bartosz Paprocki (1540–1614) was a heraldry expert, historian, and poet, and author of the armorial Herby rycerstwa polskiego “Coats of arms of Polish knighthood”.
