  • Irish (Kerry) : Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Criomhthainn ‘son of Criomhthann’, an ancient personal name meaning ‘fox’. Criomhthann was the name of one of the warriors associated with Finn mac Cumhaill. It was also the name of an early saint and is said to have been St. Columba’s original first name.
