Family name origins & meanings

  • Italian (Sicily) : probably from a place so called, named with marisco, denoting a species of reed (from Latin mariscus), or a topographic name for someone who lived by a reed bed. However, there is some evidence that Marisco is also an old personal name, with Maresca as a feminine form and a patronymic form Maresci.
