  • Italian : according to de Felice, from the female personal name, feminine form of Manetto, a pet form of Maino, or from Old French Mainet, a pet form of (Charle)magne, which was introduced into Italy during the Carolingian period, but possibly from a feminine derivative of mano ‘hand’.
  • Italian : It may also be from a shortened pet form of the personal name Emanuele (see Emanuel). Manettas is also found as a Greek family name.
