- Americanized form of German Lamenich, which is itself a variant of the nickname Laminich or Laminit, a sentence name meaning ‘don’t leave me’ (Middle High German lâ mi nit, modern German lass mich nicht).
- Jacob Laminack, also called Lamenck and Lamenich, arrived in Philadelphia on the Samuel on 27 August 1739. The family moved to SC in the 1760s.
