  • German : topographic name for someone living near a border, or habitational name for someone from any of various place called Kreinitz, Krenitz, or Krensitz (see Krenz).
  • German : probably from Middle High German grans ‘beak’, ‘muzzle’, hence a nickname for someone with a protruding mouth or a topographic name for someone who lived by a beak-shaped plot of land.
