How Popular Is The Name Kimm

Family name origins & meanings

  • English : from a Middle English personal name, Kymme, which Reaney regards as a pet form of the Old English female personal name Cyneburh (see Kimbrough).
  • Reduced form of Scottish McKim.
  • German : probably a metonymic occupational name for a cooper, from Middle High German kimme, a term denoting the notch in the staves of a barrel where the base is seated; by extension it also has the meaning ‘edge’, ‘horizon’ and in this sense may also have given rise to a topographic name.
