  • German : topographic name for the owner or tenant of the Katzenhof ‘cat farm’, from Middle High German katze ‘cat’ + meier ‘farmer’ (Latin major domus, literally ‘keeper of the household’).
  • variant of Casimir (see Kazmierczak), which in German- and Yiddish-speaking environments produced forms such as Kasem(e)ier and Katzemeier.
