  • North German : topographic name for someone who lived in a house (-haus) by an enclosed field, Low German Kamp ‘enclosed field’, or a habitational name from a minor place so named, for example in Lower Saxony. It may be a standardized German form of Low German Kamphus or Dutch Kamphuis.
