  • German : habitational name for someone from a place called Kall (south of Düren, Rhineland) or Kalle (near Meppen, Lower Saxony).
  • German and Dutch : from Middle High German kallen, Middle Dutch callen ‘to shout’, ‘to speak loudly’, hence perhaps a nickname for a chatterbox, or someone with a loud voice.
