Family name origins & meanings
- Dutch and North German : from Middle Dutch jonghheer ‘young nobleman’ (a compound of jong(h) ‘young’ + herr ‘master’, ‘lord’). The term was used of a member of the nobility who had not yet assumed knighthood.
