Family name origins & meanings

  • Southern Italian : from the occupational name for a furrier Pellizzeri (from Old Italian pellicière, from Late Latin pellicia ‘fur cloak’, from Latin pellis ‘hide’), with the addition of the southern prefix in- ‘of the family of’ (see Imbimbo). This name is cognate with northern Italian Pellicia and French Pellissier.
