Probably an altered spelling of Swiss German Hägi,
Haegi, Hägy, or Hegi, topographic names or, in
the case of Hegi, also a habitational name derived from Middle
High German hac ‘briar hedge’ or ‘enclosure (for
habitation)’. Compare Hagey and Heagy.
