  • Italian : from a late medieval personal name Guzzo, a reduced pet form of various personal names, for example Arriguzzo, from Arrigo (see Henry), and Uguzzo, from Ugo (see Hugh).
  • Italian : in the south, from the Sicilian and Calabrian dialect word guzzu ‘(aggressive) small dog’, ‘puppy’, applied as a nickname.
