  • Polish : occupational name from górnik ‘miner’.
  • Polish : topographic name, an agent derivative of górny ‘upper part of a settlement’ (see Gorny).
  • Slovenian : from gora ‘mountain’, ‘hill’, in any of several senses. It may be a topographic name for someone who lived on a hill; a habitational name from any of several places named with gora or the adjective gornji ‘upper’; or a feudal status name for the steward of a vineyard, from gora in the sense ‘hill planted with vines’.
