Family name origins & meanings
- Japanese : ‘blessed well’; found mostly in western Japan and the Ryūkyū Islands. There are several unrelated bearers of the name, the noble ones descending from Izumo no Ōmi, an ancient chief of present-day Shimane prefecture. Some others descend from the southern Fujiwara, and another group from a branch of the Minamoto.
