- Of uncertain origin. Dunworth is found both in England and Ireland, but it is not clear which was the original source. Most likely, it is an English habitational name, from a lost or unidentified place, which was then adopted in Ireland by bearers of Gaelic Ó Donndubhartaigh (see Davenport 2).
